Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings gets its first trailer today from Marvel Studios.
After Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe wrapped up with Avengers: Endgame, Marvel Studios has really broadened the offerings of the franchise. We’ve seen two new shows so far with WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier as well as the upcoming Loki show. The new Dr. Strange vehicle is expected to include some horror elements and scary sequences. With Shang-Chi it looks like we are getting a good old-fashioned martial arts flick, complete with Wire Fu.
The trailer touches on some slight super power (or magic) tech but seems to mostly be centered around martial combat. We also don’t see any mention or relation to the greater Marvel Universe, which I’m sure will come to light as Phase 4 continues to expand.
This is, notably, half as many rings as Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings trilogy. Hopefully that is just an interesting tidbit and not an indication of quality.
Shang-Chi and his adventures will be a completely new story to me, as I never heard about him until Marvel Studios’ announcement of the film. We’ll learn about him together when the movie releases on on September 3, 2021.
